The Role At A Glance

  • Pay — Rs 500 to Rs 1,500 per hour, by level, complexity, preparation time needed before tutoring/mentoring sessions etc.

  • Type — freelance, part-time, work from home. No guaranteed hours.
  • Location — remote. India-based preferred; global applicants welcome.
  • Hours — flexible, mainly 5 PM to 9 AM IST. One or two nights a week.

What The Work Actually Is

You run live 1:1 sessions on Google Meet Via Screen sharing, audio and sometimes video. Students bring their own coursework, problem sets and exam preparation, and you work through it with them — deriving and explaining the method live, at a pace they can follow.

Tutors guide students to understand and solve problems themselves. Tutors do not complete graded work on a student’s behalf. This is not negotiable, and it is the line that has kept MEB running since 2008. Read our academic integrity policy.

What We Look For

Freshers are eligible if subject depth is exceptional. We have hired people still finishing their degrees. We have also turned away people with a decade of experience and shallow concepts.

Genuine Mastery

Not textbook familiarity. Your concepts should hold up under a student’s follow-up question, not just the original one.

Strong Background

A degree from IIT, IISc, ISI, NIT or an equivalent top institution in your field — or exceptional demonstrated tutoring experience.

Clear English

Students are almost entirely non-Indian. You need to be understood the first time, every time.

A Working Setup

Reliable laptop, stable broadband, camera, microphone, and a pen tablet for the whiteboard. The pen tablet is not optional.

Punctuality

Session timings are fixed. Students in other time zones have arranged their day around you. If you are not disciplined, please do not apply.

Do Not Apply If

  • You need a guaranteed monthly income. This is freelance work — no retainer, no minimum.
  • You cannot work between 5 PM and 9 AM IST.
  • You do not own a pen tablet, and cannot get one.
  • You expect to look up methods mid-session.

  • You want to complete students’ graded work for them. That is not what MEB does, and applications suggesting otherwise are declined.

This is not salaried employment. There are no guaranteed hours, no fixed shift, and no minimum work. We would rather say so now than waste your time and ours.

Pay, Work & Selection

The fee is agreed before the work starts. You are free to decline any tutoring jobs for any reason. But once you commit, you can not backtrack!

We shortlist on subject depth, background and availability. Then a written subject test, then a short live session on a shared whiteboard with a pen tablet.

Onboarding & Work

Work is offered job-by-job as student requests come in, and distributed fairly rather than concentrated on a few. Not getting enough? Add a second subject you genuinely command.

No. Tutoring is offered student by student and you can accept or decline each one. Most demand falls between 5 PM and 9 AM IST, typically one or two late nights a week.

Yes. Sessions run on a shared digital whiteboard, and derivations, diagrams and graphs have to be worked live with the student. A mouse does not work for this.

Yes, if your subject depth is exceptional. Several MEB tutors joined while still completing a Masters or PhD. Depth of concept matters more than years of experience.

No. Tutors explain the method and guide students to solve problems themselves. Tutors never complete graded work on a student’s behalf. If that is what you are hoping to do, this is the wrong place.
