Best Metallurgical engineering tutors

I was always not too fond of chemistry, and as material science is heavily influenced by it, I had a hard time learning it. I hired a tutor at MEB who taught me in a way; I got interested in this subject. Thanks.

About Metallurgical engineering

What is Metallurgical engineering?

Metallurgical engineering primarily focuses on making metals (Steel, Aluminium, Copper, etc.) from ores and minerals and also includes making alloys from pure metals. It is a subset of Materials science & engineering.

3 Main areas of Metallurgy

Mineral processing, physical metallurgy, and chemical metallurgy are three important areas of metallurgy.

2 Broad types of metals

Ferrous and Non-Ferrous are the two main types of metals.

Ferrous metals are iron or iron-based. Ferrous metals account for 95% of the metal industry by weight.

Rest all the other metals are classified as Non-ferrous metals. Copper, Aluminium, Gold, etc. are examples of Non-ferrous metals.

Why study Metallurgical engineering?

Historically, metals have been essential materials for industries. Everything that we plan, we need suitable materials for that. We require metals for cars, windows, construction (reinforcement used), spaceships, mobile phones, servers, etc. Without suitable metals, we can not survive.

Metallurgical Engineering vs. Material science and engineering

Metallurgical engineering focuses on metals, their compounds, and alloys only. In history, we have been more concerned about metals and their alloys. However, with advancements, we discovered more materials that are useful but not metals (e.g., Ceramics, Polymers, Composites, etc.). As a result, a much broader field of Material science and engineering came into the picture.

What do we study in the Metallurgical engineering course?

We refresh the concepts of Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics and introduce new basic subjects. These are Engineering Mechanics, Computer programming, Engineering drawing, Electrical Technology, Electronics, Strength of materials, Thermodynamics and heat transfer, Fluid mechanics, Machine design and drawing (using CAD), etc.

After learning the basic subjects, we move on to those more focussed on Metallurgy. These are Geology and Minerals Beneficiation, Materials science, Material testing, Fuels and combustion, Physical Metallurgy, Chemical Metallurgy, Deformation and Fracture Behaviour of Materials, Iron Making, Electro-Chemistry and Corrosion, Chemical Kinetics and Mass Transfer, Foundry Metallurgy, Solid state Phase Transformation Processes, Steel Making, Extraction of Non-ferrous Metals, Physics of Metals, etc.

In the final year, we study Alloy Steel Making and Ferroalloys, X-ray Diffraction, Metal Working Processes, Industrial Management, Engineering Economics, Material Engineering, Metal Joining, Powder Metallurgy, etc. (Credit: Shiksha.com)

Do I need a tutor for my Metallurgical Engineering course?

Metallurgical Engineering is pretty math-heavy and quite complex. One can learn it independently, but private tutoring is a must for most students. Some subjects like quantum mechanics require high-level math, so in Metallurgical engineering, the math taught is very advanced. Contact us on our WhatsApp helpline if you need an online tutor or a tutor near you for help. We will connect you with an excellent Metallurgical Engineering tutor for all your online tutoring and homework help needs.
