Better than Philosophy tutors near me

The Philosophy tutor near me who came my home to teach me was too expensive. So I decided to find an online tutor for the same. On my friend’s recommendation I hired an online Philosophy tutor from MEB and I must say that my learning accelerated by at least two times.

Nicole Abraham

Stony Brook University, NY, USA

Also great for non engineering subject tutors

I used MEB’s tutoring services for Physics, Chemistry, Calculus and Mechanical engineering subjects like Statics, Dynamics and so on. I never thought that they will be able to teach me in Philosophy as well (It was my optional subject). The Philosophy tutor was also excellent. Thanks.

Got quick help with my Philosophy homework

I got several assignments overdue in Philosophy when I fell sick for almost 2 weeks. It was impossible for me to do all of them on my own, hence I hired a Philosophy expert tutor from MEB for the same and I am glad that I chose them. The grades are out and its mostly A or A+.👌

About Philosophy

What is Philosophy?

Philosophy in greek is “Philosophia” or love of wisdom. Logically and even historically, Philosophy encompassed all knowledge and wisdom, but it was divided into several branches and sub-branches with time. A practitioner of philosophy was known as a Philosopher.

A more formal definition of Philosophy is as follows:

“Philosophy is a study of basic questions about values, existence, mind, reason, knowledge, and language, to name a few. We do an in-depth study of these questions as problems and try to resolve them if possible. The philosophy emphasizes foundational questions about reality, human nature, and the relationship between mind and matter.”

Natural philosophy encompassed Physics, Astronomy, and Medicine. However, with vast developments in these branches of natural philosophy, it is no longer associated with pure philosophy. For example, “The Mathematical Principle Of Natural Philosophy” by Newton was later classified as a Physics book. Social sciences too used to be a part of philosophy, but with time, it became a separate science altogether and consists of important subjects like Economics, Psychology, linguistics, and Sociology.

Different geographies were not as “connected” in the past as they are today. So entirely different philosophies emerged in different geographies. For example, Western Philosophy, Middle Eastern Philosophy, Eastern Philosophy, African Philosophy, and Indigenous American Philosophy are some of the major philosophical branches based on geography. Different religions and cultures also developed different philosophies.

Every society sees women and their roles differently, and hence women are treated differently by different philosophies. As a result, women in Philosophy is a prominent topic.

A Philosophical inquiry is conducted via methods of philosophy. Some of the prominent methods of philosophy are questioning, critical discussion, systematic presentation, and rational argument.

Major Philosophy branches or types are as below

  • Aesthetics
  • Ethics
  • Epistemology
  • Metaphysics
  • Logic
  • Mind and language
  • Philosophy of science
  • Political philosophy
  • Philosophy of religion
  • Metaphilosophy
  • Other subdivisions

Philosophy education, degree, career & jobs

A student of Philosophy either becomes a philosopher themselves or applies the concepts to various other fields like Science, Business, Politics, Law, Religion, Journalism, etc. As per Curtis White, philosophical tools are essential to humanities, sciences, and social sciences. A philosophy professor is an example of the first. They also engage in teaching, researching, and writing in academic institutions. Philosophy tube ( a YouTube channel) founder Abigail Thorn was a Philosophy student, and she started her YouTube channel in 2013 to provide free psychology degrees on YouTube.

Philosophy FAQ

Is Philosophy a science?

No. Philosophy is not a science because philosophical methods are based on intuition rather than scientific methods. “I think, therefore I am” is the basis of philosophy, whereas “evidence must back statements” is the basis of science.

Science starts with a Philosophy, though. The statement is an intuition (a philosophy) that the scientist tries to prove using experiments. Once proven, the statement passes the test of science, and philosophy does not try to prove anything by experiments or empirical evidence. Intuition is supported or dismissed by other intuitions in Philosophy.

Is Philosophy a social science?

No. Philosophy is more of a humanity subject than a social science subject. Social sciences are derived from philosophy like all other disciplines, and historically natural sciences and social sciences were all part of philosophy.

Philosophy ethics

Should we kill one person to save ten? Can a corporate pollute the river to give jobs to thousands of workers?

These are the kind of questions that ethical or moral philosophy tries to answer. Rights, utilitarianism, virtues, and deontology are its four major branches.

Philosophy vs. psychology

Philosophy tries to answer a much wider range of questions related to society. In contrast, psychology focuses more on an individual or group level and studies the human mind and its behavior from a social point of view.

Why is Philosophy important?

Every knowledge that humans have has evolved from Philosophy itself. Even the Natural sciences and social sciences arise from philosophy because one has to start somewhere, whether the starting point has any base or not (intuition). If the intuition is tested and confirmed, it becomes science, but if other intuitions confirm the intuition, it’s Philosophy.

Hence, the study of philosophy is useful in all fields, and one need not be a philosopher to study philosophy.
