SACE Persian (continuers) Tutors

1. SACE Persian (Continuers) is a Stage 2 language course in the South Australian Certificate of Education (SACE). Designed for learners with prior experience, it develops advanced skills in Persian (Farsi) through reading, writing, speaking and cultural studies. It’s recognised as a LOTE (Languages Other Than English) option.

2. Also called Farsi Continuers, Persian Continuers, SACE Farsi, or Continuers Persian.

Major topics/subjects include: • Language systems – advanced grammar, idioms and script practice (real life: reading Hafez’s ghazals). • Texts and contexts – novels, films like “A Separation”, news clips from BBC Persian. • Oral communication – presentations on Nowruz traditions, group debates on social issues. • Cultural knowledge – history of the Persian Empire, modern Iranian society, tourism case‑studies in Shiraz. • Research project – independent study on a chosen topic, eg. 4. SACE introduced Persian Continuers in 2006 to broaden LOTE offerings, attracting about 50 students initially. In 2012 the curriculum was updated, adding modern literature such as “The Colonel” by Mahmoud Dowlatabadi. By 2016 unit booklets underwent continous improvement, weaving in digital media and film analysis. Then in 2020 online assessments became the norm without losing momentum, as tutors ran virtual speaking workshops. Recent enrolments have climbed steadily, reflecting growing interest in Middle Eastern culture and global languages.
