About GMAT

What is GMAT?

The Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT) is a computer-based adaptive test that assesses specific skills for admission to graduate management programs, as a Masters of Business Administration program. The Graduate Management Admission Council (GMAC) has designed the GMAT exam to assess students’ aptitude, which it believes is vital to real-world management and business career success.

More than 2000 graduate business schools accept the GMAT scores as one of the selection criteria for more than 7000 graduate management programs, including MBA, Master of Finance, and Master of Accountancy.

GMAT sections

The GMAT exam has four sections in a time of three hours and seven minutes:

  • Integrated reasoning – 30 minutes for 12 questions with multiple parts
  • Analytical writing assessment – 30 minutes for 1 essay
  • Verbal – 65 minutes for 36 questions
  • Quantitative – 62 questions for 31 questions

The verbal and quantitative sections have multiple-choice questions that adjust to the ability and performance of the test taker. Both the test sections begin with average difficulty questions. The computer presents the student with increasingly or decreasingly difficult questions depending on the correctness of the previous questions.

Is GMAT hard?

GMAT scores range from 200 to 800. More than 200,000 people take the exam annually, and only 6% of them score 720 or more. One in 8 students gets a score of 700+. From these statistics, we understand that GMAT is not an easy exam. It takes planned effort and solid preparation to score 700+.
